There are some sessions that feel extra special and this Calgary Garden Family Photography session was definitely one of them. I had the absolute joy of photographing a beautiful family on their acreage property just outside of Calgary on one of those perfect autumn days where the sun feels warm and golden and the fall colors make everything glow.

I have been photographing this family for years, starting way back when Jessica was pregnant with her very first kiddo. Watching their family grow and documenting all the big and small moments along the way has been such an honor. Every time I get to spend time with them it feels less like work and more like catching up with old friends.

For this session we stayed close to home and used their acreage property as our backdrop. I love when families choose locations that mean something to them. It makes the photos that much more personal and meaningful. Their custom gate made such a statement piece for portraits and gave us the perfect mix of rustic charm and family history. We also spent time wandering through their incredible veggie and flower garden which was still showing off its colors despite the season shifting toward winter. The garden was such a fun spot for the kids to explore while I captured those natural candid moments that really show off their personalities.

The autumn light was truly magical. The sun filtered through the trees and highlighted the rich oranges and golds of the fall leaves. Acreage family photography sessions in Calgary always feel extra peaceful because you can hear the crunch of leaves under your feet and see the endless open skies. It gives families space to breathe, play and connect while I quietly document it all.

What I loved most about this session was the mix of posed family portraits and real-life laughter and chaos that happens with kids. That balance is what makes family photography so timeless. When you look back on these photos years from now, you not only see how everyone looked but you also feel how it was to be in this season of life.
