There is something so special about photographing a family year after year. This sweet crew has been with me since their oldest was just a baby, and watching their story unfold through so many seasons has truly been one of the best parts of what I do. Now they are a family of four with two beautiful girls and the most lovable Bernese Mountain Dog named Mavrik. Every session with them feels like catching up with old friends and that is exactly what it was like for thier A Cozy Winter Family Session in Griffith Woods this year.

For this year’s photos, we met in Griffith Woods, one of my favourite Calgary locations for winter family sessions. Even without fresh snow, the park has this beautiful mix of tall evergreens, winding paths, and soft golden light that creates the perfect backdrop for relaxed, natural photos. It is one of those places that feels peaceful the moment you step onto the trail.

The girls were full of energy and personality, which always makes for the best candid moments. They snuggled into their parents, explored the path, and giggled their way through the afternoon. Mavrik joined in too, proudly posing beside his family like the gentle giant he is. I swear he knows when the camera is pointed at him.

What I love most about this family is how present they are with each other. There is an ease and warmth between them that comes through so naturally in every photo. Sessions never feel rushed or overly posed. Instead, we let the kids lead, take breaks when needed, and simply enjoy the time together. Those are always the moments that create the most genuine images.
