A Simple and Modern First Birthday Cake Smash at The Gallery Studio | Calgary Children’s Photographer
There is something incredibly special about getting to photograph the next chapter of a family’s story. I first met Wilder’s parents years ago when I photographed their wedding, so having them back in front of my camera for their little guy’s first birthday felt like the sweetest full circle moment.
Wilder celebrated his big milestone with a simple and modern cake smash session at The Gallery Studio. The clean white backdrop and soft natural light were perfect for the look his parents wanted. We kept the setup minimal with a cluster of white balloons which let all the focus stay on him and his big personality.
He showed up in the cutest denim overalls and gave me that very serious one year old expression that makes everyone laugh. Once he warmed up, he was all curiosity and movement, reaching for balloons, checking out every corner of the setup, and giving us the best little moments. These simple sessions always remind me that you do not need much to capture a child perfectly at this age. Their expressions, their tiny movements, and their curiosity do all the work.
Cake smash sessions are some of my favourites because they freeze such a fleeting stage. One year olds change almost daily and these photos become such treasured memories. It was an honour to document this milestone for a family I already adore and to see how life has grown since their wedding day.
