Botanical Eco Wedding Styled Shoot | The Gathered Wedding Venue | Calgary Wedding Photographer

There’s no better way to celebrate the beauty of nature than to have an outdoor wedding amidst the flowers and trees. We chose The Gathered in Kathryn, Alberta, as the location for our farm-to-table botanical eco wedding with a focus on generating as little garbage as possible. With a home-grown, locally prepared menu, eclectic recycled decor centered around beautiful greenery, and a resistance to all things single-use, our styled shoot generated only 3 lbs of trash compared to the average wedding which can create up to 400 lbs. We believe any couple can have an absolutely stunning wedding day without having such a huge impact on the planet.

Here’s how we did it:
All vendors were within 100 km of the venue. Instead of having all vendors deliver, one person was in charge of picking up as many items as possible along their route. We utilized the same venue for ceremony and reception. All food on the menu is grown at the venue and cooked onsite with. minimal outside additions. We relied heavily on florals for decor instead of single-use, plastic items. Flowers and greenery were all in season and grown in Canada, most all within Alberta or BC with spray roses from Ontario, and shipped or picked up in buckets or cardboard boxes without any plastic wrapping Cages, containers, and all reusable floral items were returned to florist. All decor and dishes were rented and tables and chairs provided by the venue. Tea favors, including packaging, and seed paper place names are compostable. Tea served is packaged in biodegradable packaging. Invitations would be sent via email to save paper, money, and carbon emissions from delivery. Cakes were single tier to avoid plastic insertions and were delivered directly on their rented serving platters in cardboard boxes. Cookies were served instead of cupcakes to avoid cupcake liners. Suit was already owned by groom and dress was pre-owned and available by consignment. And last but not least not a single-use plastic items were offered!
