It was such a treat to head back to this beautiful home for another Calgary in home newborn photography session. Seeing how much a family has grown is easily one of the best parts of my job. I first met this crew when I photographed big brother Oliver as a newborn, so getting the call to come back and meet baby Theo was a highlight of my week.
There is something so special about documenting a family in their own space. For this session, we spent a lot of time in the primary bedroom. It is a place where everyone feels comfortable, including the family dog who made sure to stay right in the middle of the action. Oliver is now a proud big brother with the most incredible blonde curls. He was so excited to show me his new brother, although he also made sure we had plenty of time for some “big kid” photos of him jumping and playing on the bed.
While Oliver brought the energy, baby Theo brought the peace. He is the perfect addition to this family. We focused on those quiet, fleeting details that parents never want to forget. I made sure to capture a close up newborn toes and lips photo because those tiny features change so quickly. Watching Oliver peek over the edge of the crib to check on Theo in the nursery was one of those candid moments that you just cannot pose.
Coming back to see past clients like Oliver and Theo reminds me why I love the lifestyle approach. We are not just taking portraits; we are documenting your actual life. Whether it is the way your toddler curls up next to you or how your dog protects the newest member of the pack, these are the memories that matter. It was an honor to be invited back into this home to document the next chapter for this family.
