How do I even begin to describe Nicole & Dylan’s wedding day! It was perfection from start to finish! Right from the start the girls were so laid back, excited for the day and munching on tater tots for breakfast. As the ladies were getting ready Nicole was planning the best prank on Dylan. They were planning a first look for the two of them down in Fishcreek Park but instead of Nicole being the first look surprise the Best Man was going to be dress in full batman attire and surprise Dylan. His face was absolutely priceless and was the best way to kick off a very fun and laid back wedding day!
Nicole & Dylan’s outdoor wedding ceremony was set under a large poplar tree on the Dewinton Community Hall. Their Dewinton Community Hall Wedding ceremony was emotional, full of love and laughter and 100% personalized to them. From having their sweet pups Crosby & Piper involved, to having a PB & J unity ceremony (probably the best unity ceremony I have ever seen) and having Dylan’s Aunt marry them, the entire ceremony was them.
We even had the chance to sneak them outside for some sunset photos and man were we gifted with one of the most stunning golden sunsets. It was the most incredible end to an already pretty incredible day! Congrats Dylan & Nicole, it was an absolute honor to capture the next chapter of your already long love story. From 4th grade kids to now husband and wife, your love story is one for the ages!
1. What is your engagement story (please include lots of details)?
We hiked up Ha Ling Peak in Canmore (just us and Crosby). It ended up being super windy, smoky and cold. So Dylan’s plan of proposing at the peak got crushed due to Mother Nature. Instead he brought Nicole to a treed area, private and sheltered by the wind by bribing her with “let’s sit down and have a snack over here”. Without hesitation, Nicole (and Crosby) followed. Crosby got a carrot. And Nicole got a carat hahahaha literally. Dylan got down on one knee and proposed; in shock, Nicole didn’t have words to answer, just tears of joy.
2. What advice would you give to future brides & grooms for their wedding day?
Nicole says – Let go of the stress related to planning all the little details. You’ve done everything you could do in preparation for this day, so now whatever happens is out of your control!! Be in the moment! (Easier said than done!)
Dylan says – don’t be nervous, she already agreed to spending the rest of her life with you.
3. What was your biggest surprise on your wedding day?
Dylan’s emotions when Nicole walked down the aisle. And How well behaved the dogs were for the ceremony!
4. What one moment will last with you both forever?
Having ALL of our favorite people together in one room for the reception. And the first look before the ceremony even though Nicole broke the ice by sending the best man over to Dylan first
5. What was your wedding inspiration? (think decor, overall theme and feel of the day, etc)
“Pretty”. I said anything to anything that made me say “wow that’s pretty”. Basically tried to keep things on the more classic and elegant end of things as we didn’t want it to become too rustic since the venue itself was a little rustic.
6. Describe some of your favorite wedding details and how you came up with them.
Favorite details included the light up Mr and Mrs sign in front of the head table backdropped by fairy lights. Loved how it glowed in the room!
Loved the best day ever sign hanging at the ceremony. It truly reflected how we felt about the day.
Loved that the dogs were wearing matching attire with the bridal party. We had to include them the best way we could!!
And all time favorite detail was surprising Dylan with a best man first look. It reflected their bromance to a T. Nicole and Stephen have always has a friendly feud for Dylan’s love so what better way to reduce Dylan’s nerves before seeing Nicole for the first time. Stephen approached him in a Batman suit and Smirnoff ice to “break the ice”.
7. Any advice for those planning their wedding now?
Three things:
1) Try not too change your mind too often!!
2) Try not to let other people’s opinions influence your decision. It’s YOUR day, not their day. And 3) Book Paisley Photography for your wedding day, Chantal and Jay are two awesome people to get to spend the day with!
