Now Jade Riviera Cancun Destination Wedding | Tom & Heather | Destination Wedding Photographer
I first met Tom & Heather when we captured Dylan & Brandi’s wedding day back in September 2016. Heather was the beautiful maid of honor for Brandi so I got to spend a lot of time with these gorgeous ladies. When Tom & Heather got engaged that next winter while on vacation, I was so excited for them both. I was also super excited when Heather contacted me to capture their engagement session in spring. It was so fun to see them both again. At their session they were telling me all about their amazing plans for their Now Jade Riviera Cancun Destination Wedding. Their day sounded absolutely amazing so when they asked me to come down to Mexico and capture it for them I was beyond honored and answered with a big YES!!!
Their wedding was on the most beautiful, day with the sun shinning down, not a cloud in the sky and a warm breeze coming off the ocean. As the girls got ready at the spa and the boys in their hotel room you could feel the excitement building. 60ish of their closest friends and family made the trip down to celebrate with these two. As they stood on the roof top of the hotel over looking the teal ocean behind and said their vows, there was not a dry eye in the crowd.
We planned their photos to happen as the sun slowly set and we were gifted with some of the most amazing light. These two are absolutely naturals in front of the camera too. I could not have asked for amazing clients to spend a week with down in Mexico. Their day was absolutely perfect from start to finish.
Congrats Tom & Heather! Your love story is one for the books!
1.What is your engagement story?
We were in Cancun Mexico and Tom surprised me with a dinner reservation at the Ritz Carlton, Cancun. We got there and had our own private candle lit table on the beach. We ordered some wine and he made a beautiful toast and I thought “holy shit he’s going to ask me to marry him!”. He didn’t, lol so I just carried on looking at the menu. We chatted about what we were going to order and in the middle of me talking about lobster bisque, he put the ring box on the table. I was telling myself they were just earrings, this wasn’t really happening. Now I have no clue what he said to me because I was trying to convince myself they were just earrings. He then asked me if I was going to open the box, so I did. And it was not earrings lol he said so will you marry me? I followed with well are you going to get on one knee? And he was a little nervous and frazzled and said oh yeah yeah! Got on one knee with the ring and asked me again and of course I started crying and said YES!
2. What advice would you give to future brides & grooms for their wedding day?
Just to enjoy the time together and not feel pressured to be pulled in too many directions. I wish we took time to be with our family at the cocktail party because the reception goes so fast! Also, plan a destination wedding! It was such an amazing week with so much celebration and time spent with amazing family and friends. I truly couldn’t have asked for anything more. The week itself leaves as much of a memory as our actual wedding day.
3. What was your biggest surprise on your wedding day?
H: I was surprised with how emotional Tom and my Dad were. I also didn’t think I would be nearly as calm as I was 😀
T: I was shocked with how emotional I was.
4. What one moment will last with you both forever?
H: For me it was the immediate comfort I felt as soon as I saw Tom when I walked down the aisle. It was so reassuring to know that this was right where we were supposed to be in that moment.
T: It was seeing Heather walking down the aisle in her dress for the first time.
5. What was your wedding inspiration?
Being a destination wedding, I still wanted the feel of a “normal” wedding. I tried to bring small pieces of intimacy, elegance and glam, while keeping it simple. We were in such a beautiful location there wasn’t a lot of decor needed.
6. Describe some of your favorite wedding details and how you came up with them.
I have to say I didn’t notice a lot of the small details. The things that mattered to me were the people and the energy about our day. The celebrating and dancing. Just being surrounded by so much love and support.
7. Any advice for those planning their wedding now?
It’s easier said than done but to remember that your wedding day is about you two. There are so many people wanting to influence your day and to share their opinion but when it’s all over, it’s your day. Make an effort to plan a day that matters to you.
