Over the last couple years I have gotten to know Shannon the owner of Chair Flair & Event Core. She is defiantly a power house in the Calgary wedding vendor community. From linen rentals, Chiavari chairs, to dreaming up insanely beautiful draping Shannon and her team do it all! She has also be given multiple awards for her business and each and every one of them are so well deserved. As one of the busiest (if not the busiest), hard working and crazy talented ladies I know I am honoured to call her a friend and colleague. A couple weeks ago I had the pleasure of sitting down with her and asking her a little more about herself as well as her business. Check out all that she had to say:

1. How long have you been in business?
Started in 2006 when I was 23

2. What made you get into your career?

I have 2 degrees, 1 in Journalism and the 2nd in Communications and Marketing. I was working at a golf course as the Communications and Marketing Director. We had a hard time finding someone to book events etc. so I offered to do it until we found someone. I fell in love with events and working with couples to make their special day come to life. The first year I took the sales from 1.2 million to 3.5 million. I saw a need for a decor company who offered full set up so I took my savings and purchased a modest inventory. I ran everything out of my basement and did it all on my own. I did just over 30 weddings my first year and then those people told people and the second year I did just over 50 weddings. I didn’t even have a website at the time. I decided after the second season to get a website and try my first wedding show and I haven’t looked back since. I retired (crazy to say!) from the golf course after 13 years after I had my second baby and decided to do Chair Flair full time. I opened up my first showroom in 2009 and now do over 500 events a year.

3. What would you say your style is?

I like clean and elegant… and for anyone who knows me well…. I LOVE anything that sparkles!

4. Fun fact about you?

I am terrified of heights…. even though one of my specialties in decor is ceiling draping. I design and delegate from the ground most of the time. Thank God for my amazing staff who arent afraid of heights!

5. What inspires you?

I love being an entrepreneur. I have 2 beautiful daughters who are my reason for doing everything I do. Showing them that they can achieve anything they want in life as long as they work hard, and do something they love pushes me every day. I am very grateful that I have found something I love to do and that keeps me challenging myself and my creativity to always design new things and try things I haven’t done before.

6. What is your favorite event to create for?

I specialize in weddings and what is better then being a part of someones wedding that they have been dreaming of since they were little! But I also love corporate events with a theme that allow me to think outside of the box and be creative to do things I havent done before.

7. If you weren’t doing what your doing what would be your other dream career?

I have always wanted to be a high-end realtor in a big city like New York – and of course on a reality TV show like Million Dollar Listing 🙂
