Some sessions feel extra special from the very beginning, and Ryan and Ashley’s winter proposal at Wedge Pond was one of those moments.

While traveling from Kelowna to Saskatchewan for family Christmas, Ryan and Ashley decided to make a spontaneous stop in Kananaskis. Ashley thought it was simply a chance to stretch their legs, take in the mountains, and enjoy a little winter adventure along the way. What she didn’t know was that Ryan had something much bigger planned.

Wedge Pond was the perfect choice. Snow blanketed the ground, the mountains stood tall in the distance, and everything felt quiet and calm, like the world had paused just for them. As they walked out onto the snowy edge of the pond, Ryan led Ashley to a spot with the mountains behind them and dropped to one knee. Her reaction was pure surprise. The kind you can’t fake. Happy tears, shock, and a smile that didn’t leave her face.

After the proposal, the nerves melted away and the celebration began. Ryan and Ashley played in the snow, laughed nonstop, and soaked in the reality of being newly engaged. There were snowball fights, warm hugs, and that effortless joy that comes when two people are completely themselves together. It felt less like a photo session and more like documenting a real moment in their story.
