Cochrane Acreage Family Session | Golden Fields and Mountain Views

This Cochrane acreage session was such a joy to photograph. There is something special about documenting a family on their own land where everything feels familiar and personal. The wide open space, the golden field, and the mountain views in the distance created a stunning backdrop for this extended family of six.

The main family included Mom, Dad, and their two older teenagers, and we also had Mom’s parents join in. I love working with families who have adult children or teens because the dynamic is so relaxed. There is this perfect mix of playfulness, comfort, and genuine connection, and you can feel the deep history in every interaction.

Their acreage offered so much beauty to work with. The golden field had that late season glow that looks incredible on camera, and behind them the Rocky Mountains added a soft but dramatic touch to the horizon. It had that true Alberta feel that makes sessions in Cochrane so unique.

We also made great use of the wooden fence on their property. It added the kind of country charm that fits right in with the prairie landscape. The fence created natural spots for leaning, laughing, and gathering together without feeling posed or stiff. It gave the session an easy, authentic rhythm.

What I loved most was how effortlessly this family fell into moments together. The teens were relaxed and comfortable, joking with their parents and grandparents. The grandparents brought this calm, steady warmth. And the whole group moved through the session with the kind of connection that only comes from years of shared memories.

Sessions with older teens tend to have a slower, more intentional pace. We walked through the field, chatted between shots, and let the environment guide our moments. The results were genuine images that feel true to who they are as a family.
