Winter Wedding Cochrane Alberta

It has been down right cold in Calgary since Christmas. With minus a million temps and then add on the wind chill it is almost unbearable go outside. This didn’t stop Jordan and Kristin from throwing the most amazing Cochrane Ranchehouse New Years Eve Wedding. With long johns under their suits and dresses, Jordan, Kristin and their entire wedding party braved the cold for some of the most beautiful winter wedding photos I have ever been lucky to capture. They all were absolute troopers.

Their wedding day started slow with the boys getting ready at Kristin’s brothers house and the girls at her family home. They planned to do a first look just the two of them out in Cochrane overlooking the town below. The sun was shinning and the sky was blue which made for a stunning contrast between the white snow. As Kristin walked up behind Jordan and tapped him not he shoulder you could feel the excitement. The moment he turned around his face said it all! PURE JOY!

Their ceremony was at dusk, just as the sun was setting over the mountains in the distance. As they stood underneath the wood arbour Jordan designed and made they promised their lives to one another in a beautiful emotional ceremony. This wasn’t the on’y thing Jordan made. Being a carpenter he also created all the wood signs and centrepiece boxes. He is one seriously talented groom!

Spending the day with these two and their loved ones it was the perfect way to cap off an amazing year and ring in a new one! Congrats Jordan and Kristin! We wish you a lifetime of love an happiness together!

Now a little from the couple:

1.What is your engagement story? This is actually a funny story. I had been waiting for months for Jordan to pop the question, finally I got really frustrated and cried to my best friend about it. I thought he might be having second thoughts about marrying me. She encouraged me to talk to jordan about my concerns. Later that night, we talked and I cried to Jordan. He reassured me that he had a day in mind and was not having second thoughts. Little did I know that it was the next day and all of our family and friends had known for months (even the friend who I had cried to the night before). No one had said anything to me or given me the slightest clue that it would be the very next day. So I was shocked to say the least. A few of my girlfriend’s tricked me and said that we needed to get together for a meeting (we run a Bible study together). While I was with them, Jordan and some of his friends rearranged my house and placed our wedding arch inside the living room. They placed hundreds of candles all over my house and rose petals on the floor. When I came home from the meeting I was in complete shock. Jordan led me to the living room where he had a friend playing my piano and another friend playing guitar. Jordan sang one of my favourite songs to me “Touching Heaven” by Johnny Swim. He then took me to the arch, said some sweet words (I can’t remember now, because I was in shock) and asked me to marry him. I of course said yes and then 30 or so if our closest friends and family came into my house to celebrate with us with champagne and food. It was amazing.

2. What advice would you give to future brides & grooms for their wedding day?
1) if you make all of your decorations/invites/pamphlets etc., start super early. Don’t leave things to the last minute.
2) ask your friends to help make things.  Make it fun, like a girls craft night with wine and food. I did this a few times and we got so much work done while having a blast.

3. What was your biggest surprise on your wedding day? How fast it was over. I sometimes still don’t believe I’m married. Haha

4. What one moment will last with you both forever? Our first look. The moment we saw each other for the first time on the wedding day.  It was cold, but absolutely priceless.

5. What was your wedding inspiration? My theme was rustic winter (not Christmas).  We used lots of wood accents, burlap, winter greenery and blush and white floral.

6. Describe some of your favorite wedding details and how you came up with them. I loved our jam jar favours. Thanks Pinterest!  Also I loved all of our wooden signs.  Jordan is a carpenter, so he created and built all of the signs.  I enjoy painting and painted all the script. It really was a joint effort that turned out well and I am proud of.

7. Any advice for those planning their wedding now? Have someone who is close to you but not in the wedding party, be your “go to person”. They know the whole vision of your wedding, walk along side you with the planning and are giving their advice the whole time. I had two friends who were my “go to people” and it made the day so much easier knowing two other people knew my vision for the day. They came to the rehearsal and on the day of the wedding I trusted them to make decisions and direct people on my behalf. It was a big help.  Also, enjoy the day and don’t worry about the little details. No one will notice them except you.
